The Global Security Initiative at Arizona State University is an interdisciplinary hub facilitating research on wicked problems affecting national security. In an effort to develop theories, methods and tools to address the national security risks associated with narrative, disinformation and strategic influence, the GSI seeks to expand its research team with a research scientist well-versed in computational linguistics, data analysis and/or machine learning. Initially, the primary project this position will focus on is an Office of Naval Research funded effort studying adversarial framing in the information environment. The ultimate goal is an automated, unsupervised means of detecting framing and correctly categorizing the instances of framing.

Long-term, the role of the Research Scientist position is to identify research opportunities and pursue research efforts that develop scientific tools to allow analysts and decision-makers to dynamically analyze discourse in mainstream and social media; and also interact with other research teams to integrate these results into analyses of the information environment, including a real-time modeling and also simulation environments.
